Sahitya Akademi winner, eminent Hindi poet Manglesh Dabral passes away due to COVID-19

Eminent Hindi poet and journalist Manglesh Dabral passed away on Wednesday at Delhi’s AIIMS.

72 years old Dabral had tested Corona positive a few weeks ago.

Born in a remote village of Uttarakhand, Dabral was awarded with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2000 for his poetry collection ‘Ham Jo Dekhte Hain’.

Regarded as one of the most recognized voices from Hindi all across the globe, Dabral’s poetry has been translated in all major Indian languages as well as many foreign languages including English, Russian, German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Polish and Bulgarian.

Dabral who was associated with famous Hindi daily Jansatta for a long times, served as Assistant Editor in Purvagrah published from Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal.

He also worked in Amrit Prabhat published from Allahabad and Lucknow as well for a short span of time.

Dabral worked in Sahara Samay as Editor before joining National Book Trust as an Editorial Consultant. After leaving National Book Trust, India, he joined the Hindi monthly Public Agenda as its Editor.

He published five collections of poetry, namely, Pahar Par LaltenGhar Ka RastaHam Jo Dekhte Hain, Awaz Bhi Ek Jagah Hai and Naye Yug Men Shatru.

His collections of prose named Lekhak Ki Roti and Kavi Ka Akelapan, and a travel diary Ek Bar Iowa are famous for their lucidity and style.

A very humble and humane person, from a very humble background, Dabral remained humble and down to earth despite winning worldwide fame and success till end, recalled one of his friends.
