Commonwealth Secretary-General honored with Lifetime Achievement Award and Justice Medal in India!

New Delhi, India (CU)_ During her official visit to India, the Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Justice Medal by O.P. Jindal Global University in New Delhi, India.

The Secretary-General expressed pride over the great recognition. On receiving the award, she said, “What an honor to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award and Justice Medal from O.P. Jindal Global University in New Delhi in front of some of India’s best and brightest youth during their graduation. I say to the young and aspiring in our Commonwealth family, I am no different to you, if I can do it you can too.”

The Secretary-General added, “My passion and belief in the law has grown year on year, and my determination to deliver ‘justice for all’ has grown too. The law is a tool to use in the defense of others and any young person who wants to join the law profession should know that it is a noble profession, yes it is hard and it demands everything of you but it is also very fulfilling and worthy.”

Secretary-General Scotland paid a two-week official visit to India, where she held bilateral talks with ministers, high-ranking government officials, the corporate sector, and charitable organizations. Her formal obligations began in New Delhi and continued to Pune, Haridwar, and Coimbatore.

Secretary-General Scotland made the following statement regarding her visit to India. She said, “I will be meeting people throughout this trip who have the capacity to advance India’s interests and advance the interests of the Commonwealth. Yesterday I had a valuable conversation with Secretary (West) Shri Sanjay from the Ministry of External Affairs on the importance of India in the Commonwealth.”

The Secretary-General added, “I expressed our gratitude for India’s generosity and support to vulnerable Commonwealth countries during the pandemic, including sharing much-need Covid-19 vaccines. I also expressed my enthusiasm for future collaboration and engagement on issues such as youth empowerment, ending violence against women, promoting peace and more.”
