Bangladesh (Commonwealth Union)_ According to Emmanuel Jime, executive secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), the trade volume between Nigeria and Bangladesh reached $65 million in 2021. The head of the Shippers Council announced this in Abuja when he met with Masudur Rahman, the Bangladesh high commissioner to Nigeria. Jime stated that Bangladesh exported the majority of textiles, pharmaceuticals, and rubber, whereas Nigeria exported solid minerals. In addition to this, he has also proposed a collaboration contract with Bangladesh in areas such as operating an Inland Dry Port and Vehicle Transit Area management skills.

At the meeting, Jime stated that Nigeria and Bangladesh have many similarities, including legislation, and that it would be a beneficial partnership if Nigeria could obtain Bangladesh’s knowledge in areas such as administering the Inland Dry Port throughout the country. According to him, when this alliance is implemented, the strong relationship between the two nations as D8 members will be enhanced. While delivering his address, Rahman expressed Bangladesh’s willingness to collaborate with Nigeria in the maritime industry, citing the country’s reputation for shipbuilding and bigger shipyards.

According to Arc. Bob Achanya, president of the Nigeria-Bangladesh Business and Technology Forum (NBBTF), this meeting with the High Commissioner of Bangladesh aims to facilitate and explore ways and means to support the organization’s growing successes in handling these complex drivers of the national economy within the context of the growing bilateral ties between Nigeria and Bangladesh and the South-South cooperation network.

“There are so many reasons why we can relate to Bangladesh in this space: ‘With more than 166 million people, Bangladesh is ranked as the 8th most populous country in the world (Worldometer, 2021). It covers a land area of 147,570 km2, and its density of 1265 people per km2 makes it one of the most densely populated countries in the world (World Population Review, 2020),” Achanya added.
