Africa (Commonwealth Union) _ President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated key individuals for the inaugural Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), sending their names to the Senate for confirmation. This step follows his signing of the North West Development Commission Bill into law on July 24, marking a pivotal moment in the establishment of the NWDC.

The nominees for the NWDC’s Governing Board include Ambassador Haruna Ginsau (Jigawa) as Chairman and Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji (Kano) as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer. Seven other members have also been nominated: Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe (Sokoto), Hon. Aminu Suleiman (Kebbi), Sen. Tijani Yahaya Kaura (Zamfara), Hon. Abdulkadir S. Usman (Kaduna), Hon. Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil (Kano), Shamsu Sule (Katsina), and Nasidi Ali (Jigawa).

The North West Development Commission aims to spur economic growth, social development, and regional empowerment in the North-West, a region that has faced years of neglect and insecurity. The board members, who come with diverse backgrounds and experiences, are expected to play a critical role in achieving the commission’s goals.

According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu remains committed to supporting the NWDC’s mission of bringing sustainable development to the North-West region. The commission will focus on driving significant growth, tackling insecurity, and improving the overall socio-economic conditions in the area.

The nominated board members are expected to offer their expertise to ensure the NWDC fulfils its mandate, which includes addressing long-standing developmental challenges and fostering economic stability in the region.

With the establishment of the NWDC, President Tinubu underscores his administration’s dedication to regional development and national progress. The Senate’s confirmation of these nominees will be a crucial next step in launching the NWDC’s operations and actualizing its vision for the North-West.
