Malaysia (Commonwealth) _Proton sold 12,230 vehicles in September, bringing the company’s total sales for the year to 116,832 cars. This puts the automaker on course to surpass 2022’s total sales of 141,432 units, an increase of 14.1% over the sales in the first nine months of that year.

The automaker did point out that its sales in September were 1,725 units lower than those in August, in accordance with the industry’s overall volume declining to below the 70,000 unit mark. Proton claimed to have a 20.5% market share of all vehicle sales in the nation, a rise of 0.7% from the prior year.

The lower performance in September compared to August, according to Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah, was brought on by consumers waiting it out in anticipation of Budget 2024’s release.

But despite the market’s overall gloom, he noted, new products are nonetheless being introduced at a record rate. Despite continuing to lead the market year too far with 18,614 units sold, the Proton Persona was the second most popular B-segment car in September with 2,053 units sold.

With 3,435 units sold, the Proton X90, the automaker’s newest model, continues to lead the D-segment SUV market in terms of sales despite a modest production delay brought on by a service update in September.

Although it lost its position as the nation’s most popular SUV in September, the Proton X50 continued to be the best-selling B-segment SUV with 2,210 sales. The Proton Exora continues to dominate the MPV market, having sold 3,517 units so far this year.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, four Proton models are still in the top positions in their respective niches. The Proton Persona finished September as the second-most popular B-segment sedan with 2,053 units sold, but it continues to lead the market year to date with total sales of 18,614 units, 72.6% more than the previous year, demonstrating how its combination of connectivity, safety, functionality, and premium design attracts customers looking for a dependable family sedan.

Customers seeking a high-end family SUV with mild hybrid technology are finding the Proton X90, the company’s newest model, to be appealing. All of the units on the assembly line and in the possession of customers are currently being updated as a result of a service update that was recently released for the model.

491 units were delivered in September as a result of a short production delay, but it’s anticipated that things will go back to normal this month. The X90 continues to dominate the D-segment SUV market with 3,435 units sold so far.

In anticipation of the 2024 national budget being presented on October 13th, many buyers are taking a wait-and-see attitude, which had some immediate impacts. However, the market as a whole continues to be upbeat as new products are being introduced at a record rate.
