VITEBSK, Belarus — The long history of Omani craftsmanship and royal arts has amazed visitors in Belarus as “Splendour of Omani Silver” has been launched in the Vitebsk Regional Museum, and the old city has become a junction of Arabian culture and European cultural interests.

The exhibition, which has taken place in July 2026, has presented a wonderful collection of silver masterpieces from the Sultanate of Oman and has illustrated one of the oldest artistic traditions of the region. The exhibition is not simply a gallery of jewellery pieces but also a journey into the history of Oman as a country, its identity, and its craftsmanship, where every functional object tells a story about Oman’s royal traditions.

Silver has had a distinctive role in Omani culture for millennia. It is not only a decorative object but also has significant meaning as a symbol of quality, safety, and societal position. Various extraordinary pieces of khanjars, extravagant jewellery, ceremonial implements, and beautiful silver belts can be seen in this show, showcasing the unique skills of Omani goldsmiths. The khanjar is one of Oman’s most famous symbols and is depicted in the country’s coat of arms. Scholars can trace historical references to the existence of this weapon back to the early third millennium B.C.E.

The visitors would also be introduced to one of the oldest traditions of Oman, consisting of the art of perfume making through the beautiful bottles exhibition that exhibits the bottles designed on the basis of the Khanjar form. Among the exhibits, one can see traditional clothing decorated with silver and royal relics of former Sultans of Oman in Muscat and Zanzibar that demonstrate the blending of craftsmanship with daily life.

The event taking place in Vitebsk is a manifestation of the deepening cultural ties between Oman and Belarus, with heritage serving as a connection. By showcasing its unique treasures, the exhibition initiates an intercultural dialogue despite its distance from the Middle East, while at the same time providing Belarusians with the opportunity to see the masterpieces of Omani art.

More and more museums are becoming spaces for cooperation among people from different nations, so the project “Splendid Omani Silver” shows once again that cultural diplomacy can be just as eternal as the precious metals used in the exhibition. Each bright exhibit tells its own story of culture and craftsmanship, highlighting the exhibition’s main point: that history’s brightest treasures transcend borders and speak a universal language of beauty.
