Police in Bali are investigating the deaths of an Australian father and his two young children. The three bodies were discovered inside a bungalow in Kuta, one of Bali’s well-known tourist areas, on Sunday.
The victims were identified as 56-year-old Damien John Shaw and his two children. His son was six years old. His daughter was four. The family was staying at the property when the deaths occurred.
Police became involved after Shaw’s wife raised concerns about the family. She was outside Bali at the time. According to police, the woman had spoken to her husband by phone. During the call, she heard one of the children crying. She then became worried when she could no longer reach her husband.
She reportedly contacted a neighbour and asked them to check on the family. The neighbour went to the bungalow with several other local residents. They knocked on the door but received no answer. The group eventually entered the property. They then found Shaw and his two children dead inside.
Australian media reports have described the case as a possible murder-suicide. However, Indonesian police have not confirmed how the three died.
Police told the officials that the cause and manner of death had not yet been established. Further examinations are expected to be carried out as part of the investigation. Authorities are now working to establish exactly what happened inside the home.
Police said Shaw was originally from Fremantle in Western Australia. Western Australian Premier Roger Cook said the deaths were extremely distressing. “This is a very sad situation,” Cook said.
He also expressed his sympathy for everyone affected by the tragedy. Cook said authorities hoped to understand what had happened as quickly as possible.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police are expected to conduct further examinations and gather more information before reaching any conclusions about the deaths.
