Pakistan (Commonwealth Union)_ Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given the green light to two significant transportation initiatives in Punjab. These include the distribution of 20,000 electric bikes and the introduction of 657 eco-friendly buses to operate in urban areas. Presiding over a high-level meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif oversaw the progress of these transportation initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ convenience. She stressed the government’s commitment to reduce the burden of people, especially economic difficulties, which the government is striving to alleviate.

Additionally, the chief minister also instructed the development of a school transportation project for female students in each tehsil of Punjab. The initial phase of the project includes the launch of diesel hybrid regenerated buses in major metros such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur. The electric bike initiative is scheduled to commence on May 9, and deliveries will also start in the same month. Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz Sharif also sanctioned a plan to provide 657 buses to enhance transportation facilities in major cities and instructed the transport minister to supervise the project’s implementation.

The high-level meeting saw the presence of senior officials including Maryam Aurangzeb, Senior Provincial Minister; Pervaiz Rasheed, Provincial Advisor; Azma Zahid Bukhari, Information Minister; Bilal Akbar Khan, Transport Minister; Sania Ashiq, MPA; Zeeshan Malik, Chief Secretary; SMBR; Chairman P&D; Secretary Transport; Secretary Housing; Secretary Finance; Commissioner Lahore; DG PHA; Project Director of Punjab Affordable Housing Program; MD TPRA; President Bank of Punjab; CEO of Punjab Transport Company; MD of Punjab Mass Transit Authority; and other relevant officers. During the discussion, the Secretary of Housing addressed issues related to the scheme for people with low income.

In a separate directive, CM Maryam instructed to reduce housing installments for low-income people and set a deadline for land allocation for housing construction in districts. She also mandated measures to decrease the overall cost of housing. Additionally, organizing a discussion to assess the advancement made on the one lakh houses project, the chief minister reiterated her commitment to provide houses to all homeless people in the state, ensuring that no citizen in Punjab is left behind. She also emphasized that every individual should own a house, complying with the government’s manifesto which is committed to providing affordable housing for all.
