Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt is currently in Marrakech, Morocco, attending the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings on Thursday, October 12, and Friday, October 13. During his visit, he will participate in crucial multilateral gatherings and engage in dialogues with economic partners from various nations.

The primary focus of these discussions is to address global economic challenges and ensure that international financial institutions serve the needs of all member states, including the most vulnerable. Additionally, Chancellor Hunt aims to showcase the United Kingdom’s leadership in the realm of international development.

Furthermore, Chancellor Hunt will use this opportunity to present the UK’s economic strategy, emphasizing the importance of combatting inflation and making prudent fiscal decisions.

In his own words, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt indicated that he was in Marrakech to engage in discussions regarding the global battle against inflation and to outline the efforts to set Britain on the path to economic growth.

“It is because of our solid economic foundation at home that we can support our friends around the world. I am full of admiration for the Moroccan people’s resilience following the terrible earthquake in September, and want to reiterate Britain’s backing to support the victims.”

Present at this year’s IMF Annual Meetings are Andrew Mitchell, who serves as the Minister for Development and Africa at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and Andrew Bailey, who is Governor of the Bank of England.

The United Kingdom continues its unwavering commitment to assist Morocco in the aftermath of the destructive earthquake that struck in September. To this end, the UK has dedicated a funding package with a potential value of up to £10 million, aimed at addressing the impacts of the earthquake and the floods in Libya. In the immediate aftermath of the natural disaster, a British search and rescue team, alongside a medical assessment team, were swiftly deployed to provide support to the Moroccan authorities in the affected regions.
