LONDON, UK (CWBN)_ Labour suffered serious fractures after the incumbent opposition leader, Sir Keir Starmer, said that his predecessor, Jeremy Corbyn, will not be returning to the parliamentary party, yesterday (18th Nov), despite a decision made by the Disputes Panel of the National Executive Committee concerning the latter’s suspension, on Tuesday (17th Nov).

Starmer took to Twitter to say that, “Jeremy Corbyn’s actions in response to the EHRC (Equality and Human Rights Commission) report undermined and set back our work in restoring trust and confidence in the Labour Party’s ability to tackle anti-Semitism. In those circumstances, I have taken the decision not to restore the whip to Jeremy Corbyn. I will keep this situation under review.”

According to his supporters, Corbyn, who was suspended for downplaying a watchdog report that had claimed three breaches of the Equalities Act (2010) during his tenure, had been a vital figure in reinforcing Labour with leftist support.

The opposite side of the table maintains that Corbyn’s hard-left alignments lost Labour the elections it had faced over the last ten years.

However, following Stramer’s comments, five councillors resigned in protest, claiming that the party was taking up rightist perspectives and raising concerns over due process. This adds to the fact that just prior to his suspension, Corbyn stated that “obstructive party bureaucracy” had prevented him dealing with the issue of anti-Semitism in the party.

The former party leader is yet respond to Starmer’s comments and is likely to attend parliament as an independent and will not represent the interests of Labour. His party allies have maintained that should Corbyn be suspended, the Labour Party would “lose the whip”.
