Building upon prior investments in eco-friendly solutions like biogas and electric vehicles, the company is now actively rolling out hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel across a majority of its on-site fuelling stations throughout the UK. The proactive shift towards adopting hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as a primary fuel source within DHL Supply Chain’s operations signifies a pivotal step towards a more sustainable future. Anticipated for completion by the year’s close, this strategic transition is poised to bring about a revolutionary reduction in carbon emissions. Projections indicate an impressive 80-90% decrease in carbon output when compared to conventional diesel. The ambitious ambition is set to achieve a monumental saving of approximately 15,000 tonnes of CO2e, reflecting a substantial stride towards mitigating the environmental impact of logistics and transportation activities.

The initial phase will witness the deployment of over six million litres of HVO within DHL’s on-site fuelling stations across 20 locations in the UK. Looking ahead to 2024, DHL plans to significantly scale up its use of HVO, aiming to exceed 24 million litres, further amplifying the positive impact on carbon reduction. This ambitious plan aligns seamlessly with DHL’s recently introduced Green Transport Policy, a global framework designed to promote the most suitable green alternatives in each market. The Green Transport Policy is not just a vision but a tangible commitment, backed by a substantial investment of around 200 million euros. This substantial investment is earmarked for the development and adoption of alternative technologies and fuels.
