Sri Lanka (Commonwealth) _ According to a Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) release, Sri Lanka will hold its inaugural men’s T10 tournament from December 12 to 22. Although many of the earlier preparations had focused on women’s cricket, SLC has long had dreams of hosting a T10 tournament.

However, now that T Ten Global Sports is a partner, the board is optimistic that it will launch a T10 competition for men in December. Six clubs will participate in the draft, which is currently scheduled for November 10; this is one more franchise than has participated in the Lanka Premier League’s five iterations, which is Sri Lanka’s premier T20 competition. It is anticipated that players from abroad would participate.

SLC president Shammi Silva stated in the release, “I am sure that the first draft of the Lanka T10 Super League will set the stage for an exciting and enjoyable competition, which will add color to the Sri Lankan cricketing calendar while bringing in a new experience for our players and fans alike.”

In the later rounds of the draft, an up-and-coming talent from either Zimbabwe or the West Indies will be chosen because T Ten Global Sports also operates in those countries.

Between the conclusion of the second Test in South Africa and the beginning of a white-ball series in New Zealand in late December, there will be an 11-day window during which the T10 event will take place.

The inaugural season of the T10 League (now the Abu Dhabi T10) in the United Arab Emirates in December 2017 marked the first competition to use this format. The International Cricket Council (ICC) formally sanctioned the league. England cricket captain Eoin Morgan, along with former international players Shahid Afridi and Virat Sehwag, endorsed the idea of using the format at the Olympics in May 2020.

The first full-member cricket body to launch a T10 competition, The Sixty, was Cricket West Indies in June 2022. Reports later that year indicated that Zimbabwe Cricket and Sri Lanka Cricket would start their own T10 championships in 2023.

The Abu Dhabi T10’s organizers, T-Ten Sports, have assisted in setting up T10 leagues in the USA and Zimbabwe. In March 2024, India held the Indian Street Premier tournament, a tennis ball cricket tournament in the T10 format. The winning bidders spent more than ₹1,165 crore (US$140 million) to acquire the six teams in the competition.

In 2019, the Caribbean Premier League held two exhibition women’s T10 cricket matches before two of the knockout stages.

Cricket In May 2020, West Indies announced the start of the inaugural Vincy Premier T10 League for May 22, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the event. In Port Vila, the Vanuatu T10 Blast got underway a day early.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) declared in June 2020 that the inaugural PDC T10 League would begin play. Other minor T10 competitions have been established, such as the Malaysia T10 Bash and the Cricket Fiji Vakataukata T10 League.

Compared to other cricket formats, T10 cricket is noticeably shorter. T20 cricket, which consists of 20 overs per side and lasts roughly three hours, is the shortest format of cricket played at the international level. Because of its relative shortness, players place more emphasis on hitting boundaries and scoring quickly.

The briefness of T10 cricket has elicited a variety of reactions, both positive and negative.

The Abu Dhabi T10 is the premier T10 cricket competition in the world, featuring the sport’s newest and quickest format. For ninety minutes of nonstop entertainment. The competition has received tremendous support from players, fans, and authorities worldwide since it began in 2017. The Emirates Cricket Board has granted it a ten-year license, making it the first 10-over cricket competition in the world to get International Cricket Council (ICC) sanction.

Basic Rules in T10 Competition:

A bowler can bowl only two overs maximum.

Each inning has a three-over powerplay, which is a segment of the game when further fielding restrictions are in place.

Some T10 competitions use a “floating” powerplay for the third powerplay over, which the batting side can “activate” during any over after the first two innings.

A Super Over is used to break ties. More Super Overs may be played until a winner is declared at the conclusion of one Super Over if the tie continues.
