(Commonwealth_ LIAT 2020 has announced the launch of direct flights to Dominica from Antigua and Barbuda, marking a significant step in restoring regional air connectivity across the Caribbean. The airline, relaunched after the original LIAT ceased operations in 1974, is set to resume its previous routes, bringing a new level of convenience to travelers eager to explore the region. The reintroduction of the Dominica route is seen as a major milestone in LIAT 2020’s expansion efforts. Travelers can now book flights to experience Dominica’s stunning landscapes, with fares starting at US$999 plus tax. This move is expected to bolster tourism in Dominica, further strengthening the bond between the airline and the country’s tourism sector.

LIAT 2020’s revival comes after the original airline struggled to stay afloat due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The relaunch of LIAT 2020 was made possible through significant investments from AirPeace, a Nigerian firm, which partnered with the government of Antigua and Barbuda. This collaboration enabled the airline to overcome the challenges that had plagued its predecessor and reestablish itself as a vital link in the Caribbean’s regional air travel network. The airline’s successful acquisition of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) allowed it to resume flights just in time for the start of commercial operations in August 2024. The first flight on the new route from Saint Lucia to Dominica was celebrated with a landing at VC Bird International Airport, where government officials from Antigua and Barbuda, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, gathered for the launch ceremony.

Prime Minister Browne, in his address, welcomed the new airline and emphasized its importance in promoting regional unity through direct air service across the Caribbean. He expressed optimism about LIAT 2020’s potential to expand its operations to other Caribbean nations, which could help the airline capture a larger share of the North American market. In addition to the Dominica route, LIAT 2020 has also revealed flight schedules connecting Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, and Saint Lucia. The returning flights from Antigua to Saint Lucia, and from Saint Lucia to Barbados, are expected to provide seamless travel options for passengers within the region. The airline’s fleet, including aircraft, numbered 301 and 302, will operate these routes, with departure and arrival times tailored to meet the needs of travelers.

The re-establishment of LIAT 2020 represents more than just the return of an airline; it symbolizes a renewed commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and supporting the Caribbean’s tourism-driven economies. By offering direct flights across the region, LIAT 2020 is poised to play a crucial role in revitalizing tourism and fostering economic growth in its member countries. As LIAT 2020 continues to rebuild its network, the airline is expected to explore opportunities to further expand its services, potentially opening up new routes that connect the Caribbean to broader international markets. This strategic expansion could position LIAT 2020 as a key player in the region’s aviation sector, offering travelers more choices and convenience when planning their journeys. With the launch of its new routes and the support of both regional governments and international investors, LIAT 2020 is set to reclaim its place as a cornerstone of Caribbean air travel. The airline’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient service is a promising sign for the future of regional aviation, ensuring that the Caribbean remains well-connected both within the region and with the rest of the world.
