_Global_ The first Monday of May is no ordinary day for New York as the city prepares meticulously for ‘fashion’s biggest night’ also known as the Met Gala. Every year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City hosts the world’s most star-studded night of fashion as a fundraising benefit and an opening celebration for the Met Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
Established in 1948, the Met Gala has transformed from an NYC high society charity event to an international fashion affair that witnesses the presence of contemporary A-listers in fashion, beauty, cinema, sports, and music from all corners of the globe. These celebrities and socialites grace the Gala in mind-blowing, authentic, glamorous, and at times unpredictable outfits that have some association with the theme that is picked by the Costume Institute’s chief curator.
The 2023 Met Gala theme; Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, honored the late German designer and creative genius who revived brands such as Chanel and set trailblazing trends within the fashion industry. Many guests who walked up the red carpet steps flaunted their outfits that drew inspiration from Karl Lagerfeld’s unique monochrome fashion sense, fingerless gloves, and pearl accents.
Among the highly anticipated guest list that set a hundred cameras flashing on either side of the red carpet, the desi girls that paraded through the crowd made quite the statement and channeled their brown girl energy to make this moment priceless.

No stranger to the Met Gala red carpet, Priyanka Chopra Jonas dressed in a Valentino all–black off-shoulder dress with a bow and a thigh-high slit while posing with her husband Nick Jonas. The final touches for the look of the night were added with a black faille cape and white bows at the sleeves with Bulgari jewels.
Alia Bhatt
Just a few days after her major achievement at the 2023 Filmfare awards, Met Ball debutante, Alia Bhatt made headlines as she floated in a custom-made pearl-encrusted white gown by Prabal Gurung that was reminiscent of Lagerfeld’s bridal look for Chanel’s 1992/fall-winter collection. The white fingerless gloves she adorned were in recognition of Karl Lagerfeld’s personal style. It is safe to admit that Alia Bhatt’s Met Gala debut will be truly unforgettable and a groundbreaking moment in her career.

The young businesswoman and art patron was spotted in yet another custom hand-embellished black saree gown with pearl and crystal accents by Nepalese- American designer Prabal Gurung. The detailed look was an ode to the theme as Isha paired her black outfit with a long chiffon train, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, and a Chanel doll bag designed by the late Lagerfeld.

The Indian entrepreneur and boss lady caused quite the stir as she walked in her all-silver Schiaparelli gown with a myriad of tiny mirror details that gave the overall look an avant-garde and futuristic aesthetic.
Mindy Kaling
Met Gala veteran and Never Have I Ever creator Mindy Kaling, turned heads in her corseted white Jonathan Simkhai ensemble with a fitted bodice and floor-length fringe accent. Kaling’s smoky eye makeup look and brown lips accentuated the shimmery dress while her low ponytail was a nod to Karl Lagerfeld’s signature hairstyle.
