of the pandemic and the climate crisis that is around the corner. She feels that sustainable fashion is the future and she would like to see herself as a pioneer in that field. She is already using sustainably in her designs and would possibly like to take her concepts and designs in to the future with her. She also plans to launch a label for sustainable clothing that could take her to an international platform.

When talking about Naduni becoming a part of the international fashion world we ask her what international fashion is to her. According to Naduni the international fashion world is platform for designers from all over the world can express ideas and cultures which is very important to Naduni and her brand. Whilst this is very exciting to look forward to we want to know is there anything Naduni would like to change in the local fashion industry. Naduni feels that the local industry has a lot to offer in the range of traditional and sustainable technologies but there are very few in the fashion industry using them. “Majority of the Sri Lankan people wear fast fashion clothes. We have traditional clothing technologies, such as Beeralu, Dumbara weaving, Batik, and Natural dyeing techniques.  All of these technologies are going along well with our weather conditions and tradition, but people are using artificial fabrics. This is the main thing I want to change in the fashion industry in Sri Lanka. I will do my best to introduce our traditional fashion technologies instead of fast fashion. I see this as a major way which Sri Lanka can contribute to stop ocean pollution and the upcoming climate crisis since these traditional crafts are nearly 100% biodegradable unlike artificial fabrics which take many years to biodegrade.”
