The International Cricket Council (ICC) and UNICEF in partnership with the Board of Control for Cricket in India and Sri Lanka Cricket will bring one billion fans together to celebrate One Day 4 Children on 2nd November with a message of hope and support for every child to survive and thrive.

Legends of the game Sachin Tendulkar and Muthiah Muralidaran  will be in attendance on Thursday at India’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup match against Sri Lanka as Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium turns blue to celebrate “One Day 4 Children” as part of a joint initiative between ICC and UNICEF, with a message of hope and support for every child to survive and thrive.

The initiative is in partnership with both Sri Lanka Cricket and the Board of Control for Cricket in India and is part of the #BeAChampion campaign, harnessing the reach of the Cricket World Cup to build a better world for every child, and create equal opportunities for girls and boys.

The sell-out fixture will see attending fans being given an LED wristband that will be synced with a stadium-wide blue light show durbing the second innings.

Players from Sri Lanka and India will support the One Day 4 Children message alongside other legends of the game, including UNICEF and ICC Ambassadors Muralidaran and Tendulkar.

Tendulkar said that every international cricketer, himself included, started as a child with a dream.

ICC and Global Broadcast Partner Star Sports will make sure that the One Day 4 Children experience reaches television audiences around the globe, while various ICC Commercial Partners are supporting the event with in-match donations. Contributions that will be raised throughout the campaign will support UNICEF’s work for children.

Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary of the BCCI says he is looking forward to turning the Wankhede blue.

He said that the Wankhede Stadium glowing blue was not only a visual spectacle; but a symbol of their collective efforts to support and nurture children and help them pursue their dreams.  He further stated that he firmly believes that this World Cup is a wonderful platform and an opportunity to create a legacy of hope, equality and opportunity for every child.

The ICC, UNICEF and all 10 teams at the Cricket World Cup are in addition, hosting clinics in each host city, where hundreds of children from UNICEF programs are being given the chance to pick up a bat and ball and be alongside their heroes.
