India (Commonwealth Union)_ Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 76 on September 17, with celebrations across India marked by public service, prayers and political events. While BJP leaders and supporters organised programmes to mark the occasion, Modi continued with his official schedule, keeping the focus on governance, development and technology. Wishes poured in from across the world for the Indian Prime Minister as he began his birthday by inaugurating SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The opening session briefly turned into a birthday celebration when delegates applauded and wished him “Happy Birthday”. Modi smiled, acknowledged the greetings and thanked the gathering before beginning his address.

The three-day conference, held under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”, brought together semiconductor companies, researchers, policymakers, investors and startups. Modi used the platform to highlight India’s ambitions in the global semiconductor industry and its efforts to become a trusted manufacturing hub. The conference focused on areas including chip design, manufacturing, packaging and electronics. Across the country, BJP workers marked the occasion as a day of service. The party launched the month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, with activities including health camps, cleanliness drives and other public welfare programmes. In several places, party workers also distributed food and organised community service activities.
Religious programmes formed another important part of the celebrations. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led special prayers in Varanasi, Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah took part in religious rituals in Vadnagar, Modi’s birthplace in Gujarat. Special prayers, aartis and yagya ceremonies were also held in different parts of the country for the Prime Minister’s long life. The celebrations also highlighted Modi’s 25 years in public life. Bike rallies were flagged off from Varanasi and Vadnagar, with BJP youth workers travelling through several states. The rallies were organised to highlight Modi’s years in politics and public service.

Other events included blood donation camps, lamp-lighting ceremonies and programmes for children and families. Government buildings and BJP offices were illuminated in the evening, while supporters lit earthen lamps as part of the ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’ initiative. Modi’s 76th birthday was therefore marked through a mix of official duties, public-service activities, religious observances and party programmes. Rather than being centred on a personal celebration, the day was used by his supporters to highlight his years in public life, his political leadership and his government’s focus on development and emerging technologies.
