Prince William and Princess Catherine will mark the anniversary of…

-

The Prince and Princess of Wales will visit St David’s Cathedral in south Wales, on Friday, 8th September, and lead tributes to the late Queen a year to the day since her passing.

On the first anniversary of her death, The Prince and Princess of Wales are to make an emotional pilgrimage to a cathedral in Wales where the late Queen visited.

A year to the day of her passing, Prince William and Princess Catherine – who became Prince and Princess of Wales on King Charles’ accession to the throne will visit communities in south Wales to kick start their autumn plans after the summer break.

The Prince of Wales is on the day, expected to lead tributes from the royal family, paying homage to the life and legacy of Elizabeth II, but sources have said any message will strongly “look to the future”.   Prince William is not expected to speak at the cathedral but the couple will be shown around the ancient church in St David’s, the smallest city in the United Kingdom.

A source said that it will be an emotional day for all the royal family, as well as several people across Britain, recognising this date.

For others it will be just another day and life goes on. Royal sources suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales chose to be in Wales, since they had only been thrice in the last year and the Queen had a unique connection with St David’s Cathedral.

One of the Quire Stalls has been in the possession of the Crown – named the Sovereign’s Stall since the early 1500s, the late Queen held the First Canon Cursal Stall in the Quire among the Cathedral Chapter, as Sovereign, and she took her place there on some of her four visits to the Cathedral.

The late Queen was also the first monarch to visit the Cathedral since the Reformation. King Charles III will “quietly and privately” pay tribute to his mother  at the Balmoral estate in Scotland, where she died at the age of 96.  The Prince and Princess of Wales are also thought to be visiting a coastal site attached to the company Nopla – who were the winners of last year’s Earthshot prize, the environmental competition set up by Prince William – which make packaging from seaweed and plants.

Former royal butler to King Charles and Queen Camilla when they were still the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, Grant Harrold, told The Independent exclusively that, the first year, like all big royal anniversaries, will be an important one.

Kensington Palace did not comment.

Memorial garden created for Late Queen Elizabeth II

In a village between Redditch and Alcester a memorial garden has been created to remember The Late Queen Elizabeth II.

The two-and-a-half acre site in Cookhill behind Ridgeway Meadow which is owned by the parish council has been protected under the ‘Fields in Trust’ scheme for future generations.

Volunteers from the Cookhill Allotments laid out the meadow which has been cut to represent the lines of the Union Flag which can be viewed from the air.

An English Oak has been planted in the centre with a circular bench where residents could meet their friends and read about Rotary’s Polio Project.

A member of the Rotary Club of Royal Leamington Spa – John Hughes, is responsible for the maintenance of the meadow and has purchased 4,000 crocus bulbs from RIBI to be planted in support of Rotary’s Purple4Polio project.

The year seven students from Ridgeway School are planting the crocus corms which will spell out ‘Elizabeth II’ when in bloom.
