An iconic pale pink blouse adorned with a distinctive ruff collar, worn by Princess Diana in a celebrated 1981 engagement portrait, is slated to hit the auction block next month with a projected value of up to $100,000.
Captured by Lord Snowdon, the portrait featuring Diana in this elegant blouse became widely recognized, gracing the pages of prominent publications like Vogue, following her engagement announcement to Prince Charles, who would later become King Charles III.
Crafted by Elizabeth and David Emanuel, the same designers behind Diana’s renowned wedding dress, the blouse boasts a satin ribbon intricately tied in a bow beneath the collar. Interestingly, the fabric used was repurposed from a damaged dress, stained with mascara during a fitting. According to Elizabeth Emanuel’s book, “A Dress for Diana,” the princess fell in love with the blouse upon seeing it on the rack.
The designer held onto the blouse until 2010, when it was eventually sold. From 2017 to 2019, it was displayed at Kensington Palace as part of an exhibition showcasing Princess Diana’s wardrobe.
Another notable item on auction is an evening dress worn by Diana on two public occasions, expected to fetch up to $200,000. This dress, characterized by a black velvet bodice adorned with stars, a dropped waist, padded shoulders, and a blue skirt, embodies the 1980s fashion era, solidifying Diana’s status as a style icon.
The auction, set to take place in Beverly Hills and online from December 14 to December 17, will also feature memorabilia from Hollywood’s golden era. Audrey Hepburn’s yellow wool Givenchy coat from the 1963 movie “Charade” is estimated to reach $40,000, while a carriage clock once owned by Marilyn Monroe is anticipated to fetch $4,000. The auction promises a captivating glimpse into the glamour and history associated with these iconic pieces.
