Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan made his Met Gala debut in a Sabyasachi outfit, joining a distinguished lineup of global celebrities at the 2025 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Alongside him, Indian stars Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani also made their first appearance at the prestigious fashion event. Themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, this year’s Met Gala spotlighted Black identity and the evolution of menswear, marking the first exhibition in over two decades to focus solely on male fashion. The gala was co-chaired by cultural luminaries including Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A\$AP Rocky, and longtime Met Gala curator Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as honorary chair.

Shah Rukh Khan shared that his children, Suhana, Aryan, and AbRam, played a key role in convincing him to attend. “I’m very nervous and excited… I was wondering if I could just run away,” he admitted. It was their encouragement, coupled with that of renowned designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, that led to his appearance on fashion’s biggest stage. In perfect alignment with the evening’s theme, Shah Rukh Khan wore a bespoke black ensemble designed by Sabyasachi. His look featured a long overcoat crafted from luxurious Tasmanian wool, detailed with wide lapels, a peak collar, and Japanese horn buttons. A silk shirt, tailored trousers, and a pleated satin waistband completed the classic silhouette.

The ensemble was elevated with layered jewelry, including a distinctive ‘K’ pendant and an ornate Bengal Tiger Head Cane made from 18k gold and embellished with tourmalines, sapphires, and diamonds, a nod to Sabyasachi’s Bengal roots. This year’s Met Gala not only highlighted fashion but also emphasized heritage and craftsmanship. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s Slaves to Fashion, the exhibit and its “Tailored for You” dress code showcased the cultural significance of bespoke menswear. The event reaffirmed the Met Gala’s role as a powerful stage for identity, artistry, and global storytelling.
