Africa (Commonwealth Union) _ President Bola Tinubu has commended the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) for its solidarity regarding the political deadlock in Niger. President Tinubu expressed his appreciation during a meeting with the Special Envoy of President Ali Bongo Ondimba and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Gabon, Hermann Immongault. The statement emphasized that President Bongo, who also chairs ECCAS, conveyed full support for ECOWAS resolutions against the unconstitutional government takeover in Niger.

President Tinubu, who also holds the position of Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, emphasized the critical significance of upholding democratic governance and preventing military intervention. He acknowledged the mutual apprehension surrounding military interference and emphasized the dedication to implementing sanctions while collaborating closely with ECCAS to reinstate constitutional order within Niger. This stance emphasizes the collective commitment to maintaining the principles of democracy, stability, and rule of law, as well as the joint resolve to work collaboratively to resolve the situation and ensure a peaceful and lawful transition of power in the country.

President Tinubu pledged to collaborate with President Bongo and ECCAS, aligning efforts to resist any attempts by the Niger military junta to intimidate President Mohamed Bazoum. He assured that ECCAS’s stance and actions would be consistently communicated and implemented.

The Special Envoy conveyed President Bongo’s endorsement of ECOWAS leadership in restoring democracy to Niger. He emphasized that ECCAS fully supports ECOWAS resolutions against the coup and noted the interconnectedness of West African and Central African challenges. The Special Envoy pledged to relay ECCAS’s solidarity to the Niger military authorities during forthcoming meetings.

President Tinubu’s acknowledgment of ECCAS’s assistance and the collaborative dedication demonstrated by both regional entities underscore their mutual goal of reestablishing democratic governance in Niger and upholding stability within the region. This recognition highlights the collective efforts aimed at promoting political integrity, fostering democratic principles, and ensuring harmonious conditions that contribute to the overall well-being and progress of the nation and the broader regional context.
