UK and Malaysia join hands to provide smart city solutions to global markets

-

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (CU)_ UK and Malaysian smart cities enterprises are forging strategic alliances to bring smart city solutions to the Malaysian and global markets. The cooperation of Interactive Coventry Ltd and Metrobinaya Sdn Bhd with significant players Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai and SME Corp Malaysia is one such partnership.

Interactive Coventry leverages proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) technology to simplify and lower the cost of processing incredibly huge amounts of data, while also cooperatively future-proofing the technology in the partner’s metaverse. This strategy will permit urbanization in the face of climate change while stressing a win-win outcome for all parties. Additionally, the cooperation will provide a ground-breaking smart cities solution in Malaysia for predicting and managing flash urban floods.

The agreement was announced in connection with the UK’s virtual smart city mission to Malaysia. This was the first UK smart cities delegation that visited Malaysia virtually, including 40 top UK enterprises. The conference was arranged by the British High Commission in Malaysia and the UK Department for International Trade (DIT) in partnership with several important Malaysian ministries.

The major objective is to develop bilateral cooperation between the nations in order to accelerate the development of smart cities in housing and local government, communications and multimedia, and sustainable transportation sectors. The three-day conference brought together 40 UK smart cities technology suppliers that provide a plethora of solutions ranging from smart economics to smart living, smart environment, smart people, smart government, smart transportation, and smart digital infrastructure.

Three Malaysian ministers presented keynote addresses on different days. Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican, Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong all delivered their addresses at the conference.

Charles Hay, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, is optimistic about the UK’s smart cities offering and the possibility for more cooperation. He spoke about the UK-Malaysia bilateral relationship and the role of smart cities in it. He added, “Smart cities development and technology is a new growth area in UK-Malaysia bilateral trade. The UK offers world-class expertise and technology in smart cities development. Through the Virtual UK Smart Cities Mission, we want to turn the enthusiasm from governments and businesses into real opportunities for both countries to collaborate in smart cities development”.

This is another illustration of how the UK and Malaysia may work together and advance their partnership in the era of smart cities. The virtual conference drew over 600 participants from Malaysia and the United Kingdom, representing both the public and private sectors.
