Prime Minister Boris Johnson was overwhelmed today when it was published that more than 100,000 people had lost their lives due to Covid 19.There have been 1,631 death in the past 28 days and the government is taking full responsibility for it. UK would be the first European nation to pass the landmark number.

The statement made on Tuesday from Downing Street by Mr. Johnson was full of sadness and sympathy, he gave his deepest condolences to “fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, and the many grandparents who’ve been taken”.

The reason for the sudden rise of cases in the UK in past few weeks is because of the new variant of the virus that has managed to leave UK with the highest virus death rates in the world. There were more than 20,000 positive cases found on Tuesday and the numbers just keep growing.

Even though England has been in Lockdown since 5th January and people are only allowed to leave for grocery shopping, exercise and work (if they cannot work from home) the infection rates are still rising and continue to rise as of right now. The death toll rise came in 2 wave’s one wave in spring and the other wave in winter, the mistake was the delay in the lock down in March. But this wasn’t the only factor there were such things as an ageing populace as well as an unhealthy and obese populace that contributed to this.

Prof. Chris Whitty England’s Chief Medical officer made a statement that the number of people dying will come down relatively slowly over the next 2 weeks. He also added that the new variant of the virus has changed the situation in the UK and that the NHS is still trying to get a grip of the rising cases and this changing pandemic.

Sir Simon Stevens NHS Chief Executive officer also said that “continuing improvements in hospital treatment for severely sick coronavirus patients”. And continued to add by saying, “We can see a world in which coronavirus may be more treatable, but for now, it’s a combination of reducing infections and getting vaccinations done.”

Boris Johnson may have to get ready for a public inquiry as to how they government could let this happen and to help them understand why so many people died. It was possibly when people were allowed to go to restaurants and the cinema and even a pub without proper rules set in place.

The pressure is now on the prime minister to answer the questions the public has for him regarding this crisis and why certain things were not done sooner, such as testing for the public and protection for care homes. It’s also a case of getting the vaccine to the most vulnerable to the virus on time so the death toll can be slowed down.

Dr. Yvonne Doyle claims that it was a sobering moment for them in this pandemic as each and every death was a person how was someone’s family and friend, and it was a national tragedy for the death toll to have reached 100,000 in this period of time, the government still has not learnt its lesson from what happened in the summer and are still behind the curve.

Officials further went to state that: “Had we acted both earlier and with greater stringency back in September when we first saw case numbers going up, and had a policy of keeping case numbers at a reasonably low levels, then I think a lot of the deaths we’ve seen, not all by any means, but a lot of the deaths we’ve seen in the last four or five months, could have been avoided.”
