The Norwegian Nobel Institute (Oslo) announced the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) will be awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for its contributions in fighting hunger among at risk populations in 80 countries across the globe, particularly in Yemen, Congo, South Sudan, Nigeria, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and Syria, where intervention is urgently required. The WFP would be the 101st winner of the Nobel Peace Prize which will be accompanied by 1 million USD.
The WFP is invested in range of activities such as emergency relief, resilience building, cash-based assistance, sustainable goals development, food waste reduction and country capacity building, which help achieve their “Zero Hunger” campaign in support of an estimated 690 million people worldwide faced with food insecurity, 135 million of whom are severely affected.
