The 60th Presidential Inauguration of Donald Trump featured an array of musical performances that underscored a mix of patriotism, unity, and celebration. Held on January 20, 2025, the inauguration included both high-profile artists and rising talents, with performances at various events throughout the weekend.

Swearing-In Ceremony Highlights

The swearing-in ceremony took place inside the Capitol Rotunda due to frigid weather in Washington, D.C. Country music superstar Carrie Underwood delivered a stirring acapella rendition of “America the Beautiful” after technical difficulties. Speaking about her involvement, Underwood said in a statement provided to NPR, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.” Outgoing President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were among those in attendance, joining the crowd in singing along.

Opera tenor Christopher Macchio performed the national anthem, adding a classical touch to the ceremony.

Liberty Ball Performances

Later that evening, the Liberty Ball showcased diverse musical talent. The Village People, famous for their hit “Y.M.C.A.,” performed and addressed their decision to participate. In a Facebook statement, original member Victor Willis clarified that the performance was not an endorsement and that political views are being kept out of the performance.

Country music star Jason Aldean also took the stage, performing his hits such as “Dirt Road Anthem.” Meanwhile, rapper Nelly, known for chart-topping singles like “Hot in Herre,” defended his participation in the event. Speaking to ABC News Live, he explained, “He won. Growing up, I was taught to respect the office. This is about respect and honor.”

Commander-in-Chief Ball

The Commander-in-Chief Ball leaned heavily on country music, featuring performances by Rascal Flatts and rising artist Parker McCollum. Gary LeVox, the lead singer of Rascal Flatts, shared his excitement on social media, expressing that he felt humbled and honored to play at the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, calling it a night to remember.

Starlight Ball and Victory Rally

Singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw performed at the Starlight Ball, engaging the audience with popular hits such as “I Don’t Want to Be.” Meanwhile, the Make America Great Again Victory Rally featured a diverse lineup, including performances by Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Liberty University’s Praise Choir.

Billy Ray Cyrus also expressed his enthusiasm online, sharing a photo from soundcheck and stating that the venue was ready to rock in celebration of Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Mixed Reactions

Despite the celebratory nature of the events, the participating artists faced backlash from some fans and critics. Carrie Underwood’s decision drew criticism, though actress Whoopi Goldberg defended her, emphasizing the importance of artists uniting for national events. Similarly, Nelly faced scrutiny but maintained that his performance was about “coming together” and not a political endorsement.

Victor Willis of the Village People also addressed the controversy on Facebook, encouraging people to give the President a chance.

Snoop Dogg, who performed at the Crypto Ball over the Weekend had also been the subject of criticism due to his own criticism of other artists that performed for President Trump in 2017. However, He has yet to respond.

A Weekend to Remember

The inauguration’s music events aimed to highlight unity and patriotism, with a blend of genres and perspectives. As Trump’s second term begins, the performances—ranging from country music to disco classics—reflect both the celebratory spirit and the divisions that continue to shape American politics.
