Kabul, Afghanistan (CWBN)_ Speaking to a local news channel, Khalilzad states that the peace process maybe effectively concluded within the coming months, instead of the previously estimated timeframe of several years.

The revelation comes in a time of relative uncertainty where the Afghan Government has taken steps to fortify the Kabul region by imposing security belts under the watch of the 111th Capital Division of the Afghan National Army, in the wake of bombings that took place in Laghman and Nangarhar less than a week ago, resulting several civilian casualties.

The most recent of attacks was a vehicular suicide bombing in Mihtarlam that targeted the Provincial Governor of Laghman, Rahmatullah Yarmal, on the 5th of October, which resulted in eight casualties inclusive of four members of the Governor’s protection details.

Moreover, with the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Afghanistan, the atmosphere of national security appears bleak despite official assurances.
