Abuja, Nigeria (CU)_ Engr. Emeka Ekwuosa, the Founder of the Sir Emeka Ekwuosa Foundation, revealed the news to the media following the tour around the facility along with media representatives. According to him, the initiative was intended to help impoverished Nigerians who suffer from cardiac ailments but are unable to afford treatment in India or other developed nations.

The newly constructed Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital has partnered with the US-based Voom Foundation to provide free open-heart surgery to disadvantaged Nigerians. According to the hospital administration, this initiative is for all Nigerian people, regardless of ethnic, tribal, or religious affiliation. The hospital, constructed by the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, is situated in the Oraifite village in the Ekwusigo local government of Anambra State.

According to Engr. Ekwuosa, who was represented during the visit by Sir Oselloka Offoh, the Foundation Media/Community Mobilization Manager, a total 20 patients have already registered for the operation. He stated that the surgeries will be performed by skilled medical physicians from several Nigerian tertiary health institutes and American physicians. He lauded the partners of the Foundation for funding heavily in healthcare and developing the South-East region’s medical standard.

According to Offoh, the hospital will greatly benefit the population of the Oraifite community, Anambra citizens, and Nigeria in general. He stated, “The facility will in no distant time be converted into a teaching hospital that can groom young medical professionals in Nigeria”. According to the hospital manager, Dr. Aghomishe Aherosule Ogaga, the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital became the first hospital in the South-East region to get advanced Catlab surgical equipment.

The facility features all necessary medical equipment to handle various health issues that typically cause Nigerian business and political figures to leave the country for medical treatments. According to Dr. Ogaga, the facility is now collaborating with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi and the Federal Medical Center in Asaba, Delta State, to draw a huge patient population.
