When the body has difficulty in regulating blood sugar levels and processing glucose (sugar), the condition is commonly known as type 2 diabetes. This leads to high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) which can cause complications in the heart. Exercising 20 to 25 minutes a day, will help to reduce blood sugar, improves blood pressure and cholesterol of individuals with type 2 diabetes.

 The food which you consume, the body breaks down everything to make glucose. For glucose to enter cells, a hormone called insulin would help. The body will not respond much to insulin, when an individual has diabetes.

When they’re exercising, muscles use glucose as energy. This helps to lower blood sugar levels and why it’s better to take a walk after each meal. During exercise, the processes the body goes through, helps insulin to work more effectively.

Exercise provides many benefits for individuals with type 2 diabetes. Body’s improved response to insulin or less insulin resistance, is one of the main benefits.

If you have type 2 diabetes, by exercising often, will reduce insulin resistance, improves sleep and mood, regulates blood pressure, promotes weight loss and improves quality of life.

Individuals who are not used to exercise, should start with low-intensity options such as swimming, biking and walking. It can be a goal to focus on working all major muscle groups and to moderate- level exercise options.

Abdomen, chest, back, arms, hips, legs and shoulders are major muscle groups which you should include in exercise regimens

The best type of exercise for individuals with type 2 diabetes depends on the person. To improve insulin resistance by increasing insulin sensitivity, aerobic exercises such as, swimming, biking and walking would help.

Body-weight exercises, lifting weights and suspension are resistance exercise options which helps to increase lean body mass, improves insulin resistance and decrease fat content.

While choosing activities that are enjoyable, it is important to do a combination of both aerobic and resistance exercises, so that you will be able to maintain it for a long period of time.

If you have type 2 diabetes, there are many benefits of exercises as well as risks involved. Before starting a new exercise routine, it’s advisable to talk to a healthcare provider, consider your abilities and start slowly.
