This change has been marked by the tension between two of its most prominent figures Jeremy Corbyn and Sir Keir Starmer these divisions have further been magnified during the election campaigning.
Corbyn, who served as the Leader of the Labour Party from 2015 to 2020, was known for his unapologetic socialist stance. During his tenure, Corbyn sought to challenge the political establishment and reinvigorate the Labour Party’s grassroots support. His leadership was characterized by a radical shift to the left.

The rivalry between Corbyn and Starmer reached its zenith during the 2019 general election campaign. Corbyn’s leadership was marred by allegations of anti-Semitism within the party, which Starmer, had been instrumental in addressing. This internal conflict was further compounded by the party’s poor performance in the election, which resulted in a crushing defeat for Labour and led to Corbyn’s resignation as party leader.
In the upcoming general election, Jeremy Corbyn, who faced the party whip removal due to his response to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) report on Labour antisemitism, is contesting as an independent candidate in Islington North, opposing the labor party.
When EHRC report was released Sir Keir Starmer was given much credit for taking a firm stance against antisemitism and apologizing for the mistakes made by the labor party. However, his recent comments on serving in a Corbyn cabinet has persisted on him with perceptions of him not being straight forward.
During an intense moment in the Sky News election debate on Wednesday evening, the incumbent Labour leader faced intense scrutiny from host Beth Rigby.
In response to a question about whether he truly believed his predecessor would excel as prime minister, Sir Keir responded by stating, “I was certain we would lose the 2019 election. We were not ready. I was certain we would lose it.”
