Pakistan (Commonwealth Union)_ Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant religious occasion marking the end of Ramadan, is being celebrated across Pakistan with immense religious zeal and fervor. The festive atmosphere is observable as millions of Pakistanis gather in mosques, Eidgahs, and open spaces across villages, towns, and cities to offer special prayers. Special Eid congregations were held in various parts of the country, where Muslims united in their devotion and prayed for the prosperity and development of Pakistan, as well as the liberation of Muslim territories, including Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.

In Islamabad, the main Eid congregation took place at the grand Faisal Mosque, where government officials, foreign diplomats, and citizens gathered to offer their prayers. Prominent mosques in other cities, including Badshahi Mosque in Lahore and Alamgiri Masjid, were packed with worshippers performing Eid Namaz. These gatherings served as a reminder of the spiritual significance of the day, bringing together people from all walks of life in a collective expression of faith.
Leadership messages
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Zardari shared heartfelt messages with the nation. Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining the virtues of piety, patience, and sacrifice, which were nurtured during the month of Ramadan. They called upon Pakistanis to observe the spirit of compassion and solidarity, particularly in light of the challenges faced by many. President Zardari highlighted the significance of social responsibility, urging people to generously give their Zakat, Sadaqat, and Fitrana to those in need. He also prayed for the freedom and peace of the people of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, stressing the importance of standing in solidarity with the oppressed.

In his message, Prime Minister Sharif stressed the need for national unity in combating sectarianism, hatred, and extremism. Furthermore, he expressed his support for the oppressed people of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, offering solidarity with the families of martyrs. Eid celebrations were held across the country, with notable gatherings in the Governor House in Sindh and Karachi’s Polo Ground, where prominent figures, including Governor Kamran Tessori and political leaders Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Farooq Sattar, participated. The city of Karachi saw over 4,000 Eid prayer congregations, with hundreds of thousands of worshippers joining together in prayer. Similar large-scale gatherings took place in cities such as Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and others, where millions of Pakistanis participated in the spiritual observance. After the prayers, many citizens visited graveyards to offer Fatiha for their deceased loved ones, reflecting on the importance of remembrance and connection with the past.

Armed forces’ role and Eid greetings

Tight security measures
In light of the celebrations, the government has implemented enhanced security measures across Pakistan to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens. The government has imposed Section 144 in several areas and enforced bans on pillion riding and aerial firing. Punjab’s Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, reported that 47,000 personnel had been deployed to secure 29,000 congregations, with additional precautions to prevent kite-flying and aerial firing. In the federal capital, over 3,500 police officers were deployed to maintain law and order. As Pakistan celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr, the country comes together not only in spiritual devotion but also in a collective desire for peace, unity, and prosperity.
