NEW DELHI (CU)_ As many countries across the globe have committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, some of the most developed economies in the West have already launched plans to phase out coal powering the coming decades. For instance, the United Kingdom, which will be hosting the UN climate talks (COP26) this year, has announced plans to bring forward the deadline on decommissioning coal plants to 2024. According to COP26 president-designate Alok Sharma, this “decisive step” taken by London will send a clear signal to allies and partners around the world that “clean power is the way forward”.
