Foreign missions under review by new appointed committee

NIGERIA (Commonwealth Union) – Africa in general is a massive continent and has a lot of countries in its register. This means that there are many foreign countries with countless diplomatic missions also known as embassies and high commissions from the African continent.

However, maintaining a mission takes a decent amount of governmental funds. The Nigerian government has finally taken the steps needed to see if it is really needed to have spent this kind of money on these state missions abroad. This means that the government would have to look into how much money is being spent by the missions.

The government of Nigeria already has a lot going on with the elections coming up. They needed to find a team of people committed to the cause of the foreign missions and the solution to this problem was very simple. They created a presidential committee of 13 men whose main duty is to review the number of missions the country has worldwide. They then proceed to see how much they are spending in order to keep these missions open. The findings of this committee will ultimately decide if the missions are to be kept running or shut down.

Whilst the 13-man committee was a god idea, they needed someone to head the committee. The man chosen for this duty was none other than retied permanent secretary Ambassador Martin Uhomoibi. This made a lot of sense as Ambassador Martin is a foreign service staff and has been a career diplomat. Which means that he has a lot of experience and can give advice as to how this situation can be best handled.

The committee was inaugurated earlier this week by the Secretary to the Government of Federation Mr. Boss Mustapha in Abuja. He gave a speech outlining the need for this committee. He further stated that in 3 months the committee should publish its first report on what the problems are and how they can be solved.
