India (Commonwealth Union)_ Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Moscow has underscored India’s unwavering commitment to its longstanding alliance with Russia, amidst global geopolitical tensions and efforts to isolate President Vladimir Putin over the Ukraine conflict. PM Modi arrived in the Russian capital on Monday, warmly received by Denis Manturov, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, in a ceremonial welcome that reflected the depth of bilateral ties. During bilateral discussions at the Grand Kremlin Palace, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s willingness to support Russia in establishing peace in the region, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He underscored India’s principled stance on dialogue and diplomacy as the only sustainable paths to resolving conflicts, condemning violence and advocating for humanitarian solutions. PM Modi said, “I assure you and the world community that India is on the side of peace. Listening to you yesterday has given me hope. For new generations to have a bright future, peace is essential. PM Modi receives highest honor in Russia
In a significant recognition of his efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, PM Modi was conferred with the highest civilian award ‘Order of St Andrew the Apostle’ by President Putin, marking a historic first for an Indian leader. The prestigious award, established in 1698, symbolizes the highest state decoration of Russia and acknowledges PM Modi’s exceptional contributions towards fostering mutual cooperation and understanding. Accordingly, post receiving the award by President Putin at a special ceremony in St. Andrew Hall in the Kremlin, PM Modi took to X and penned, “Honored to receive the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. I dedicate it to the people of India”.
Meeting with Indian diaspora
In his speech to the Indian diaspora, he emphasized that the foundation of the India-Russia relationship rests on mutual trust and respect, highlighting that their bonds have endured numerous tests, growing stronger with each challenge. PM Modi also engaged with the Indian community in Moscow, discussing the deep-rooted ties between India and Russia and acknowledging the significant role of the Indian diaspora in enhancing these connections. Furthermore, he unveiled plans to establish Indian Consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg, underscoring the community’s pride in India’s accomplishments.

During their meeting, PM Modi also condemned terrorism strongly, underlining India’s long standing battle against the menace and expressing solidarity with Russia in combating terrorism globally. He openly mentioned that it is heart-breaking when innocent children are dying. President Putin, in turn, acknowledged India’s significant role in international forums such as the United Nations, SCO, and BRICS, reaffirming the close cooperation between the two nations on international issues of mutual concern.
