Malaysia: The Upcoming Manufacturing and Services Destination

Malaysia (Commonwealth Union)_ The Malaysian government has set its sights on transforming the country into a hub for high-end manufacturing and services, aiming to attract increased foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic investments. Liew Chin Tong, the Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, stressed the importance of conveying to investors that Malaysian factories are capable of producing sophisticated products, including semiconductors.

Additionally, he highlighted the country’s provision of top-tier, high-end services such as legal, environmental, and engineering services, along with services catering to regional headquarters. Following an event promoting the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), Liew spoke to reporters, urging Malaysian companies to actively participate in international exhibitions. He emphasized that such events, like CIIE, serve as platforms for Malaysian entrepreneurs to work with Chinese businesses, fostering beneficial trade relations between the two nations.

Liew emphasized the significance of substantive cooperation, mutual understanding through exhibitions, and the development of awareness regarding each other’s regulations and economic controls. He stated, “Events like CIIE provide a platform for Malaysian entrepreneurs to engage with Chinese businesses, facilitating trade relations to the benefit of both nations”. Earlier, Liew also underscored the need for enhanced collaboration between government and private enterprises in the context of high-end manufacturing and services. He articulated the government’s responsibility to improve Malaysia’s regulations and propose initiatives that positively impact Malaysia-China businesses, with a specific focus on high-end manufacturing and services within the established policy and legal frameworks.
