Maldives to collaborate with Sri Lanka to boost the fisheries sector: FM Shahid

Maldives (Commonwealth Union)_ According to Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, the government of the Maldives remains committed to cooperating closely with the government of Sri Lanka in areas of mutual significance, notably in the fisheries sector. During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Shahid greeted Mr Niranjan Deva Aditya, the Presidential Envoy and Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka, to the Maldives. He then elaborated on the lengthy history of bilateral relations and the strong interpersonal connections between the two nations.

After a meeting with Mr Niranjan Deva Aditya and the delegates, the Maldivian minister tweeted the following: “Was a pleasure to meet my good friend, the Presidential Envoy & Advisor to the President of #SriLanka, Niranjan Deva Aditya. Affirmed Maldives’ unwavering support to Sri Lanka and assured commitment to work closely in areas of mutual importance, particularly the Fisheries sector. @MFASriLanka.”

Foreign Minister Shahid also emphasized that both nations have played vital roles in the development of each other in the past. In addition, he ensured that the government of the Maldives will continue to support Sri Lanka’s economic revitalization efforts. The Maldivian minister and the Presidential Envoy also reaffirmed their mutual commitment to continue collaborating closely together in areas of mutual importance, bilaterally and in international forums.

In addition to the FM and the Presidential Envoy, Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef, Secretary of Economic Cooperation Dr. Hussain Niyaz, Bilateral Secretary Dr. Hala Hameed, Additional Secretary Mohamed Faisal, and Director Moomina Ibrahim were also present at the meeting. The Presidential Envoy and Presidential Advisor of Sri Lanka Mr Niranjan Deva Aditya is presently on an official visit to the Maldives. His visit to the Maldives began on Tuesday and is scheduled to end on Saturday.
