LONDON, UK (CWBN)_ Leading a briefing concerning the Covid-19 pandemic in the UK, earlier today, Prime Minister Boris Johnson, stated that England would face a “hard winter”, as tough strict measures are expected to stay in place in order to avoid a nationwide lockdown.

It is expected that the highly populated regions such as the Midlands, North West and North East will remain under Tier III lockdowns while London would face a Tier II lockdown. The Tier III restrictions will affect up to 32 million people in England (57.3%) while Tier II restrictions would affect 23.3 million (41.5%) people.

The PM said that until vaccines are made available, the measures aid in the suppression of the virus.

Johnson admitted that the hospitality industry bears a “disproportionate share of the burden,” however, reassured that the government is prepared to take every step necessary to protect and livelihoods throughout the UK.

He added that, “the restrictions in all Tiers are tough and I’m sorry about that.”

Government statistics reported a 25.6% drop in newly reported cases over the past seven days, in the UK, however, the number of deaths reported has increased by 14.4%.

Chief Medical Officer for England, Chris Whitty, noted that Tier II lockdowns would only enable the UK to “hold the line” and cannot be relied on to reduce infection rates.
