LONDON (CU)_Earlier this year, the president designate of the UN Climate Summit (COP26), Alok Sharma, emphasised the need to shift to cleaner industries, saying the United Kingdom intends to make this year’s Conference in Glasgow “the COP that consigns coal to history”. Sharing similar views, Chief Executive of the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs), Mafalda Duarte, noted that it is not sufficient to completely focus on clean energy investment. “Unless we focus on accelerating the pace at which we move away from coal, we are not going to meet the Paris Agreement goals,” she said during an interview with Climate Home News.
