Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ In response to the increasing coronavirus outbreak in the country, it has been finalized by the government to purchase 30 oxygen generators for hospitals through a direct procurement method. On Wednesday, the cabinet committee on economic affairs approved the proposal for the idea.
According to Additional Secretary Shamsul Arefin, the concerned ministry will determine the pricing and the hospitals to which the oxygen generators will be delivered. The oxygen generators will be purchased through the Asian Development Bank’s COVID Response Emergency Assistance program.
Due to a sudden spike in the fatal COVID-19 cases, the requirement for medical oxygen has mounted in Bangladesh. Following the devastation brought by the Delta version of the coronavirus in India, specialists recommended Bangladesh authorities to take efforts to maintain a proper medical oxygen supply and put in place other emergency medical facilities to deal with the respiratory disease outbreak.
Hospitals in Bangladesh are now overflowing, with the highly contagious strain accounting for the majority of infections. As a result, to treat individuals with minor symptoms, the government intends to rent hotels. On Tuesday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque noted that certain doctors, nurses, and a limited supply of oxygen would be provided to the hotels where patients are treated.
