Kigali, Rwanda (CU)_ St. Kitts and Nevis’ ambassador to the United Kingdom represented the Caribbean country during various forums at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022 (CHOGM) held in Kigali, Rwanda. Ambassador Kevin Isaac along with his delegation including Gurdip Bath, the Special Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis, presented the regional problems at the CHOGM’s series of meetings.
During his participation, Isaac, who is also the Chairman of the Commonwealth Board of Governors, noted that there is nothing more meaningful than 54 nations and their people uniting together to commemorate and emphasize a shared commitment to work in collaboration to create a shared future.
Bath took to Twitter and shared many Tweets on his official account, providing frequent information regarding St. Kitts and Nevis’s participation in CHOGM 2022. He tweeted, “I am honored and proud to be amongst the Heads of Government from the Commonwealth. It is indeed a privilege to represent St Kitts and Nevis at CHOGM, Kigali Convention Centre”.
The current Secretary General Patricia Scotland was re-elected for a second term as Secretary General of the Commonwealth at the CHOGM 2022. In addition to several other Commonwealth countries, St. Kitts and Nevis also supported her re-election bid. One of the primary agendas during this year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting was the selection of the next Secretary-General. At the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, leaders from 54 Commonwealth nations voted to elect the new Secretary-General.
Prince Charles of Wales participated in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022 (CHOGM) held in Kigali, Rwanda, on behalf of the Queen. To note, the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, commonly referred to as CHOGM 2022, was the 26th Meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government. Initially set for June 26-27, 2020, the meeting was postponed twice because of the pandemic. The summit normally takes place once every two years, and the next one is slated for 2024.
The theme of the 2022 CHOGM was “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, and Transforming.” The Caribbean government leaders who attended the summit were Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Dominica; Gaston Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda; Philip J. Pierre, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia; Philip Davis, the Prime Minister of the Bahamas; and Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica.
