Covid in Malaysia on the rise after elections

(CWBN)_Malaysian authorities reported a significant spike in Covid-19 cases with an addition of 691 new infections yesterday, indicating a dramatic shift from the statistics reported since the outbreak in February.

The current number of identified cases hence stands at 13,504. Statistically, Malaysia appears to be doing significantly better in comparison to its neighbour Indonesia which reports a total of 58,268 cases with over four thousand new cases reported yesterday. The Philippines also reported a total of 34,572 cases but the rate of new cases being reported appears to have dropped to about two thousand whereas over four thousand were reported mid-September.

Nonetheless, the Government is yet to impose a lockdown nationwide.

The deteriorating situation has resulted in significant political criticism for failing implement adequate precautions during the Sabah State Elections.

To date the Sabah region has reported the highest number of cases in Malaysia since the initial outbreak.
